The legal profession has remembered with fondness and great respect the passing of former High Court Judge John Toohey.
John Toohey, a proud Western Australian, became a leading Queen’s Counsel at the Western Australian Bar. He was president of both the Western Australian Bar Association and the Law Society. He is remembered for his commitment and interest in indigenous legal issues and worked in Port Hedland for a period for time.
Eventually Justice Toohey became a Federal Court Judge.
In February 1987 he became Western Australia’s second High Court Judge.
The late Justice Toohey will be remembered for his commitment to accessibility before the law, his sense of humour and as a person who commanded universal respect from his colleagues.
